Carmakers are building dealer stock for the festive rush. Maruti Suzuki has about 2.2 lakh pending bookings. Mahindra has lifted SUV and EV capacity to 68,000 a month. A booking is still not a delivery date.
The festive rush is a stock problem as much as a discount problem. PTI reported that Maruti Suzuki has about 2.2 lakh pending bookings. Hyundai says it has built roughly four to five weeks of inventory across its dealers. Mahindra has raised SUV and electric-vehicle capacity to about 68,000 units a month so waiting periods can come down.

Hyundai's managing director, Tarun Garg, said the company spent the last few months filling dealer yards, tightening logistics and keeping cars available for retail during the festival, while still clearing older bookings. That is a network average. It is not a promise that the colour you want in Thane or Pune is in the yard this week.
What should you ask before you pay the booking?
- The VIN or a written production month, not only "delivery in the festive season".
- Whether the car on offer is the current price list or an older car the dealer wants to clear.
- Which exchange or corporate scheme expires on 31 October, and which one is still open after delivery.
